Welcome back P6O!

20th Apr 2020

Hello my favourite class! How are you all doing? I hope that you all had a good Easter and didn't eat too much chocolate! I'm sure you all enjoyed the beautiful weather in your gardens or out for lots of walks/cycles. I certainly did! I think I spent most of every day last week outside in my garden or walking the roads round Dunloy with my dogs. I'd love to hear what you've been up to! I've had emails from Katie, Mia, Niamh and Abbie so far but I'd love to hear from the rest of you. (koneill422@c2kni.net or send pics to our school Facebook page if your parents allow you to.) So now it's back to work for us all!

Term 3 is usually an extremely busy term for P6. We have lots of Literacy and Numeracy to cover, Peer Mediation training to participate in each week, TWAU topic work on Fairtrade not to mention Art, Music and PE as we prepare for Sports day! Oh and preparation for those of you who are opting in to do Transfer tests.

So this is my plan for us: each week I will upload 4 days of New Wave English and New Wave Maths for you to complete 1 each day (Answers will go up on Fri for you to check), a list of spellings we would normally cover each week and pictures of the wordsearch, crossword or a similar activity. You should try to do these activities every day to keep your brains active and not forget all the things you have already learned. Remember all the fun games/activities we did in class for learning our times tables and facts? (tables clicks, Mastermind, Shoot out, Primercise, the plank....) you can do all these at home - a little bird told me that one of our class was heard shouting out their times tables as they bounced on their trampoline! What a fab idea!

You also have your Comprehension and MA booklets at home. You should have plenty left to complete - I would recommend 1 comprehension per week and 1 complete MA test per week.

I will upload PDF documents for English and Maths for you to work on with. These booklets are large - you do not have to complete the whole thing - but I think they are very good. You can read them from the screen and write answers in your school books or print them, whatever suits you best. 2 activities from these per week is plenty.

Thursday is our extended/creative writing day in class so every Thursday I will ask you to write about something in a particular style/genre. You can email me your pieces or send me a picture if you want to.

I think that's enough for now - you'll all have brainache reading this! Please don't worry about any school work - if it's too difficult leave it out and do something you prefer, like read or draw a picture or make something and send a picture to me.

I miss you all and wish we were in our new school, finding our way round and having fun. Hopefully we will be soon. Take care, stay safe and stay at home,

Love Mrs O'Neill
